Inner Kartli, the central region of Georgia, which has always was the largest and the most important region in Georgia and even gave the Georgian name for the country “Sakartvelo”. Inner kartli, as historical province, is located between Likhi Range and river Aragvi. The region of Inner kartli is rich with cultural and architectural monuments. On the mountains and gorges are built numerous stone castle-fortress, castles, churches, old former villages, nature, cold clear springs of mountain, big and small rivers, natural and not natural lakes, the beautiful places of Trialeti and Likhi Ranges, the historical and nature monuments.
Samtavisi is located in Kaspi region 66 km. away from Tbilisi, according to legend, Vakhtang Gorgasali build Samtavisi, where one of the Assyrian monks Isidore of Samtavisi lived and worked. Nothing from the building of that time came up today and the church got its present face in 1030 year it is distinguished with refined forms and firebird relief. Skhvilo -The first mention of the fortress was in the annals of X-XI century From the XIV to XVII century it was the residence of the great feudal lords Zevdginidze-Amilachvari. Joseph Stalin Museum The oldest city Gori which is in the valley of the river Mtkvari is the centre of Shida Kartli. Exactly in this very city there is a State Museum of an outstanding person J.Stalin, where unique exhibits are collected: memorial things, presents, canvases, photo-film documents etc. Here is kept unique historical stuff connected with that epoch, in which J.Stalin lived and did his social work. Uplistsikhe - 10 km from Gori stands one of the rarest monuments in the world – the ancient fortified city Uplistsikhe cut inside the volcanic rocks of the Kvernaki ridge. It was first mentioned in the annals of the 1st century BC and prospered in the 9th -10th centuries. The church of Sioni Ateni is only a few kilometers from Gori, on the left bank of the river Shan on the edge of a cliff- on the platform which is supported by a wall. Ateni with its 12th-century frescoes is one of the architectural treasures of Georgia. The walls of the church display unique Georgian writings of different periods. |
